Welcome to the boiling heat transfer laboratory at UCLA. The boiling heat transfer group is a pioneer in both fundamental as well as applied sciences concerning boiling, a very efficient and complex process of heat removal.

The boiling heat transfer lab was founded in the early 70's and since then has contributed to the ever expanding knowledge in the field of heat transfer. Refer to the list of publications for more details.

The lab is equipped with modern equipment such as gas chromatograph, gamma densitometer, data aquisition system, high speed imaging systems, laser doppler velocimetry equipment and scores of personal computers and workstations.

Research Overview

Currently the lab is involved in the study of flow boiling, microgravity boiling, natural convection, electronic cooling and other theoretical, numerical and experimental study. Feel free to contact vdhir@seas.ucla.edu for details or see our research page.  Or, you can read our lab factsheet (PDF format).
